The Golden Eagles began their 2025 Field Hockey season with early morning practices, countless hours of conditioning in scorching weather or even in the pouring rain, they started off with strong determination and teamwork. Each time these athletes stepped onto a field they were ready to play with great confidence and full trust in one another. Despite the end result of a game, each player on the field gave their 100% effort and energy in all four quarters. 

Throughout the season, the girls faced the worst and the best. With disappointing losses, amazing wins, challenging opponents, as well as facing injuries, this didn’t stop the golden eagles from even the hardest obstacles. When losing 2-0 with fifteen seconds left on the clock, the girls still continued to lift each other up. The girls were each other’s biggest supporters on the field even when things became stressful and frustrating. 

A strong, hard working team needs to be led by inspiring coaches. Central Regional gifted the girls four outstanding coaches that led them to success in their books, despite their ending record. Coaching a bunch of teenage girls in high school may not be the easiest thing, but with their way of holding certain positive mental health activities during practice, discipline, and teamwork, the girls grew not just as an athlete on the field, but as a person off of the field. With the leading hand of senior captains Karissa Corvinus, and Alison Hess, their patience and guidance grew a bond within the players and coaches that no other team could compare too.

Central Regional’s 2026 graduating senior captains,  Karissa Corvinus, and Alison Hess share the end of their high school season.

Karissa Corvinus (#3) a 2026 graduate, who has grown up loving field hockey. Having played for Central Regional’s Field Hockey team in both middle and high school, her skill is impossible to miss. She has played field hockey almost her whole life and additionally plays for the U19 Phoenix Elite Club. Number 3 stood out on the field in the past and present seasons with excellent ball control and leadership as captain this year. She scored several goals for Central Regional, leading them to victories throughout the season. Scoring the game winning goal during a heart racing moment in overtime, she secured the 3-2 win against Toms River South. Karissa is one of two Central field hockey captains, also being admired as a leader and friend by all on and off the field. Completing her final high school season, she is pleased to share how it felt to be playing on that field one last time, and describing the journey that led to unforgettable memories and friendships that were made to have now shaped her to be the athlete and person she is today.

“Any senior athlete will tell you that they’d want their last season of their high school career to be an undefeated record or a state title. I can say that that was a thought that crossed my mind too, though in the end that’s not how it turned out. We ended our season with many more losses than we had hoped, but honestly the part of the season that became most important to me was the bond and memories that we created as a team. I was constantly met with a sense of gratitude for the little things like our little game day traditions, and having our names called out in the loud speaker by Mr. Abbot. Being the captain this year was such an honor and I hope I was able to make a memorable mark for the underclassmen who will continue their journey with Central Regional Field Hockey. Every single player poured their hearts out onto the field despite the score, and it was truly an amazing thing to be a part of. I’m forever grateful for this sport and everything this season has given me.”

Alison Hess (#2) a 2026 graduate, playing for Central’s field hockey team throughout both middle and high school, her love and passion for field hockey grew with her throughout the years. Known for her contagious smile and kindness all around the team, Ali has always been a reliable role model for underclassmen using her skill as a leader to lead them to success and lighten teammates during the midst of a hard game. From start to finish, Ali is a dedicated and passionate player on the field. Though she had excellent performances last season, she shined even brighter this year. Ali had remarkable goals and assists this season, while working alongside her sister on the field, Maren Hess, the girls worked together to hand Central victories. With several goals and assists this season, her crucial game winning goal against Toms River North gave the girls a 2-0 win leading them to the first round of Coaches Cup. Alongside Karissa, Ali uses her leadership skills as captain, leading both herself and her teammates on and off the field. As Ali’s high school season comes to an end she shares the meaningful connections she’s made with coaches, and teammates. Over the past couple of years she’s grown as not just an accomplished and hard working athlete, but also the kind hearted and reliable person and player that her team knows her as to this day.

“This season was so meaningful for me and our other teammates! One of the things I loved most was how much growth I saw in both myself and in my teammates. I felt like we built a really strong bond with each other and our coaches. This made practices and games so much more enjoyable. Mentally, I think we made huge progress. Even when things got tough, such as games against very competitive teams like Shore and Point Borough, we kept our composure and finished our season strong. Physically, I’m proud of the work we put in. The work we all put in at the summer practices reflected in games when we needed defenders to sprint back or have midfielders and forward players get back to help each other out. Overall, this season was about growth as players, people, and teammates!”

As the Golden Eagles say goodbye to their graduating seniors, they prepare for their 2026 season to approach.
