Ms. Mastronardi has been a teacher for 12 years, she wanted to become a teacher because “I had teachers who really inspired me and helped me grow as a student and a person. Those experiences made me want to become a teacher and, hopefully, have that same impact on students.” Ms. Mastronardi decided to teach high school because she wanted to help students develop their voices and build lasting relationships and a passion for literature.  Ms. Mastronardi began her teaching journey by “enrolled at Ocean County College to pursue a degree in Liberal Arts. Then, I completed my education at Kean University (at OCC), earning my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a specialty in English. To complete this degree, I took plenty of Education-based courses, as well as courses such as Shakespearean Literature, Medieval Literature, and Creative Writing.” Ms Mastronardi has always had a love for English, it’s a grey area subject and she loves that there is no one right answer. Students can create their own opinions and perspectives. She says, “It encourages discussion, critical thinking, and self-expression, and it gives students the space to connect literature to their own lives and experiences.” Ms. Mastronardi has loved her time teaching, putting together all the work and assignments that she believes her students will enjoy. “ I knew it would be a very rewarding experience, and it definitely is!”.
