Christmas vs. Thanksgiving
Decorating for the holidays can be controversial, especially the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Although these two holidays celebrate different things, they are often mixed together when it comes to decorating. Some people decorate for Christmas start of November 1st, some people December 1st, or sometimes the day after thanksgiving. With this in mind, many people have different ways of decorating. Now, the most effective and fun way to decorate for Christmas comes right after Thanksgiving.
When you decorate at the start of November, you are completely ignoring Thanksgiving, and Thanksgiving deserves some recognition. However, the most effective and logical way to decorate is to decorate the outside in November towards the beginning and wait to decorate the inside until after Thanksgiving. This way, you aren’t outside freezing in December to decorate but you can still give recognition to Thanksgiving inside. Many people also agree with decorating after thanksgiving, ¨Üsually after, but maybe before this year¨(Mr. Rosenberg);¨Definity after¨(Mrs. Nolan).
Although some say it is better to decorate for Christmas in November, it’s not practical. Then Thanksgiving gets no celebration and it is way too early to start getting into the Christmas spirit straight out of Halloween with no grace period. The only information I gathered from people who decorate before December is that they just want to get in the Christmas spirit, which is understandable but doesn’t give true meaning to Thanksgiving and the celebration of family coming together.
The best way to decorate has to be outside before thanksgiving and inside after Thanksgiving, this way is logical being mindful of the cold, and we can still celebrate Thanksgiving like it deserves to be celebrated.
