Teachers, they’re blessings to society with a full plate of work. So what makes the job worth it? Where did they start? What other jobs have they considered? These are all questions I asked Mr. Booth, and today you will learn more about this loved teacher. I first asked Mr. Booth why he became a teacher, his reply was, “My math teacher in 10th grade inspired me.” How sweet is that! But what did he do before becoming a teacher? “I managed an SAT tutoring facility.” What did the process look like? “Four years of undergrad and one year of grad school at Rutgers.” After that question, I followed up with another. “If you weren’t a teacher, what would you want to do for a living?” “Back then, I don’t know. But in hindsight, at this time, nurse.” I feel like Mr. Booth would be a great nurse! But if he had a choice to teach any other subject, what would it be? “Never put much thought into it. Maybe history.” And why pick math? “It was easiest for me.” Out of all the years he’s been a teacher, I wanted to know what his biggest accomplishment is when it came to teaching. “Not one thing in particular, but seeing students become more confident in themselves is one thing that brings me the most joy out of this job.”
To finish this interview I asked him one more question, “What’s your expectations for your students?” and he answered, “Give effort and be genuine.” I’m happy I learned more about Mr. Booth. How about you?
