Eagle's Voice

Central Regional College and Career fair is just around the corner, taking place on February 11th at 6pm. In lieu of this exciting event, the Central Regional Newspaper, The Eagle’s Voice, took the initiative to interview our lovely principal, Mr. Mazzuca, and get a deeper insight into his daily life as a school principal.
The beginnings of a career in education start with a college degree. When asked about his college background, we discovered he attended Montclair University to obtain his Bachelors of Arts in English. His main motivator for his love of reading and the English subject stems from his connection with his mom. He recalls being young and always attending the local library with his mom, who always encouraged him to read exciting books. In addition, he has always loved kids, and wanted to help the community around him. He credits his high school football coaches for this, as they always made him feel supported and special as a young teenager. These main motivators in his life fostered his love for helping kids and the English language that soon enough landed him the role as an english teacher here at Central. For years, he served as an outstanding member of the English department, wearing many hats such as class advisor, newspaper advisor, and more.
He recalls the joys of being a teacher, and believes due to his experience as a teacher, he can better relate and support the staff and faculty much more today. “Because I spent so long here I know the ropes, and the teachers know I have their back.” (Mazzuca) Years later, he reattended school to earn a master’s degree at Georgian Court University to further advance his career and his education. After receiving his masters from Georgian Court for administration, he served for years as an assistant principal here at Central. When asked if he ever had other jobs outside the school field, he shared that he was a camp counselor for children when he was young. In times of wonder and confusion in all stages of his life, he recalled his father always reminding him, “Go to school”. Mazzuca explains how he always listened, and stayed in school his whole life earning numerous degrees in college, and working in a high school for over 20 years.
Being a principal has been a wonderful experience, in which he shares the countless situations he deals with everyday. He claims, “Everyday is never the same, I love getting to talk to the students and hear their stories as well as experiencing all different kinds of situations.” He explains the multitudes that come with being a school principal, such as “One moment I can be in numerous meetings talking about the wellbeing of our school and its students, and the next I can be observing teachers making sure they are doing okay, as well as having wonderful conversations with my students and staff all in the span of 2 hours”. Much gets done, and there are of course ups and downs that come with any job. He claims, “The best moments of my job heavily outweigh the negative aspects of it. Although this was new for me, I believe everything happens for a reason and am so grateful I get to have this job.”
