Essential Tips for Test Preparation: Sleep and Nutrition

Test taking is an important skill of life that is imperative for students to learn early on. Test taking can be used in the work field, social life, and the school field. Tests are used in many different areas of study, and can be important for diagnostic tests. The NJGPA, although seemingly mundane and laidback, is actually incredibly important for students’ futures. This raises the question, what are some ways to better prepare yourself and prime your mind for better focus? Many controllable factors play into having a clean mind, such as sleep, and diet.

Studies show starting the morning with a healthy breakfast results in much better test scores. Fruits, yogurts, eggs, bacon, orange juice, milk, and many other foods of that sort all lead people to start their days off in a much better manner in comparison to those who eat nothing. Having breakfast allows people to feel more replenished and awake, leaving them in an upbeat mood and more prepared state. Healthy food refreshes and energizes students, making them ready and focused for any test or problem the day has to offer.

In addition to having a healthy diet, getting a full 8 hours of sleep can be important for refreshing and restarting your mind. Calculating the time you have to wake up to the time you must sleep to feel refreshed can help provide you with an appropriate bedtime that leaves you focused and awake in the morning. The National Library of Medicine states, ¨New sleep deprivation studies confirm the relationship between inadequate sleep and a wide range of disorders, such as hypertension, obesity and type-2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, impaired immune functioning, and more.¨ Overall, sleep is detrimental to having a healthy mind that is ready to pass their NJGPA exams.

Overall, diet and sleep are arguably the most important dependent variables for having a test taking mind that is ready to take and pass with soaring colors on the NJGPA.
