The CR girl’s soccer team is already having an unbelievable season. With them still improving and their record being 8-1, they are looking to have a great rest of the season. With captains and seniors Logan Lisewski, Emma Bortula, Made Leppard, Brianna Daly, Leah Dicillo leading the team through the season, all their victories. With playoffs right around the corner the CR girls are looking to finish their amazing season on a high note.

The girls soccer team has won almost every game so far, with their only loss being against Tr South. Going into the game, South was considered one of the best teams, along with Central. The girls knew this game would be a challenge and that south was gonna give them a run for their money. After Central beat south in the preseason game they had confidence going into the game trying to pull off another win . Logan and Emma are both determined players, they do think they can beat South when they play against them again. In their own words they said “we were outworked and looked tired and thought it would be an easier game than what it was.”
CR also took a huge win against Point Boro, Rumson, and Middle Town North. This team has improved tremendously from last year and the girls said the biggest change this year was everyone’s mindset. They also mentioned, “the people on the team really do matter and everyone on the team right now wants it, and last year there were some people that just didn’t care.”

The game planning and training that go into each practice and game are key to the team’s success. However, you never know what can happen during a game, and plans can change at any moment. Logan Lisewski explained how the team prepares for that concern, saying “We practice how we play, our coaches told us you win tomorrow’s game at today’s practice.” Emma Bortula added, “We all pick up the changes quickly, and it gives us more confidence when we switch things up because we have a better chance of winning.” Being able to adjust quickly has helped the team stay confident and prepared when things do not go according to plan.
During a game, there is so much happening that sometimes the pressure and nerves can get to players. Soccer players have to constantly think about where their teammates and where opponents are positioned, who they are going to pass to, and how they can help their teammates, all while making quick decisions. With so much happening at once, staying confident and communicating can be difficult. Both Logan and Emma said the hardest part of every game is “our confidence level and our communication with one another.” Being able to communicate and stay confident can make a major difference when the pressure is on.
Gianna Lawrence has been outstanding in goal this season, making numerous saves and recently being named the MVP Goalkeeper of the Week. Leah Dicillo has also made a strong impact in every game through her skills and consistent play. As the season continues, the CR soccer team is preparing for Senior Night, a special event that will honor the team’s seniors. With the state tournament and more games ahead, the girls are excited to continue competing and working toward more victories.
